I Wish My Life Were a Sitcom, 2022

Coursework project for A-Level H2 Art in 2022.

A combination of performances and cartoonish animations in this four-minute video art depicts the loneliness I felt after I was retained for a year in Millennia Institute. The video on the left features my inner and truest feelings. In sync, the video on the right shows my perspective. Using television glitches and sounds, I intended to relay my desire to live in a sitcom, as the characters often end the episodes with happy endings that evoke the feeling of camaraderie. In the first portion of the video, it shows my life prior to retaining; accompanied with friends, laughing, and playing sports. After retaining, the second portion of the video shows the same scenes as the first with the difference being that there is no one around me. The lack of sound and colour helps to play a role in establishing my loneliness. During the resolution of the video, there is a new sense of life in the work; the colours are warmer and the video on the left features me with a more composed demeanor.
I'm proud to have made the first A-Level coursework in Millennia Institute that utilises the artist's own performance.
